Title: Data Visualization at the New York Times
Amanda will discuss what news graphics have taught her about data visualization (distributuions are more interesting than averages, a lot of good songs have backup singers, the annotation layer is very important). She will also talk about some of the things she is trying to figure out; for example - how we treat uncertainty and how to make charts that play well with words.
